This is my 21st year teaching at Raymond Central. After graduating from Raymond Central, I earned my Associate Degree in clerical studies from Southeast Community College which I used as I worked for, first an accounting firm and then for a lawyer/entrepreneur in Lincoln. I then worked for a time for Selection Research, Inc./Gallup Organization where I had the privilege of knowing the late Don Clifton, who believed “Each person’s greatest room for growth is in the areas of his or her greatest strengths.” He believed, as I do, that we are born with strengths and talents that are meant to fulfill our purpose in life. I married my best friend from high school, John Peterson, and together we have raised four children (2 girls and 2 boys, who have also graduated from Raymond Central) and we are now on our family's second generation, with 4 grandchildren. It was while raising our children that my husband encouraged me to go back to college. I earned a Bachelor of Arts from Doane College as well as beginning to work on some Master level classes. It was also during that time that I started my own Daycare/Preschool business which I owned and operated for almost 10 years. When my youngest child started school, the principal at the time, Dr. Harriet Gould, encouraged me to apply for the Reading/Math Support position. I was hired, worked in that position for a year and then I was offered the 1st Grade position and have either taught 1st grade or a 1st/2nd grade combination classroom since then. I have always loved to read and I love to share my love of reading with my students. One of my favorite things to play, as a child, was school. Who knew it would lead me to my career path today:)
