The coordinator will be responsible for recruiting coaches, communicating information about the program to students/parents and managing the logistics of the program with GOTR Nebraska. If you are interested, please send an email to raymondcentralpto@gmail.com. Thank you!

TEMPERATURE GUIDELINES FOR RECESS . . . . Inclement weather conditions may necessitate indoor recess. A wind-chill factor guide of 15 degrees or below will typically be followed. Office staff will determine prior to recess time.

Coats/jackets should be worn until 60 degree temperature is reached, unless other conditions exist-example: 58 degrees, sunny, and no wind, they probably will want their jackets off. Again, at the supervisor’s discretion.

TIME FOR KIDS KICKOFF . . . will start on February 2. Students will bring home booklets to fill out completely following the instructions inside the booklet. We have the opportunity for students in our school to receive “Time for Kids” magazine at a great discount. This program helps save vital funds for our school by allowing the money that is currently being spent on these materials to be spent on other classroom materials. Last year our school saved over $1000! Great American will send out the postcards along with a list of 250 family magazines. Our school receives 40% profit (minus postage) from each magazine purchased. What a great way to “reach out” to out of town family and friends! (NOTE: Postcards will only be mailed out one time and names DO NOT become part of any mailing list.) Students this year can earn a “Coop Character” keychain for every family subscription ordered and/or completed postcard booklet. Postcards and paid subscription(s) need to be returned by Monday, February 12. Thank you in advance for participating.

FALLBROOK YMCA FAMILY FUN NIGHT . . .

Plan to attend the PTO’s Family Fun Night at Fallbrook YMCA! We have the Fallbrook YMCA reserved from 7:00-9:00PM, Saturday, February 3. We also reminded parents if they could not, they were to contact Jim Marsh at 402-785-2685 or jmarsh@rcentral.org for assistance. Please visit www.rcentral.org to sign-up today!

Examples include LEGOs, decks of cards, blocks, Jenga, Operation, Perfection, Let’s Go Fishing, Sequence for Kids, Marble Tower, etc. Also, as you pack up your holiday items, any left over gift bags you can share would be greatly appreciated to help restock our inventory for next year’s Holiday Shoppe. Please bring any items you wish to donate to either school office.

FROM THE FIFTH GRADERS . . . Raymond Central Elementary has collected 833 items for the “Helping the Homeless from Head to Toe” project.  We are well over the halfway mark for our combined goal of 1300 items, but wouldn’t it be even more exciting if we reached or even surpassed our goal?  Both fifth grade classes have made the decision to continue the drive into the month of January, to hopefully meet our goal. Just think about it, 833 items is an extremely good number, but wouldn’t 1,300 be even better?  Let’s continue to “Help the Homeless Form Head to Toe” and meet that goal.

SECOND SEMESTER . . . ends on Friday, December 22. Student report cards will be sent home with students on Friday, January 12.

EARLY DISMISSAL-WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 15 @ 1:45PM-VAL/CERESCO

FROM THE DESK OF SUPERINTENDENT DR. DERRICK JOEL . . . As the new superintendent for Raymond Central Public Schools, I am required to be evaluated by the Raymond Central Board of Education (BOE).  My contract requires two evaluations during my first year of service.  The BOE is interested in using a different format to accomplish this task and will be seeking input from a variety of stakeholders within the district.  The evaluation model selected by the BOE is called a 360 Degree Evaluation.  We are working collaboratively with the Nebraska Association of School Boards (NASB) to accomplish this task.  Brief surveys are being developed to disseminate to various stakeholder groups thus allowing administrators, staff, students and community a pivotal role in the process.  Surveys will be distributed by NASB to randomly selected participants to capture performance data using an instrument called Survey Monkey.  All survey data will be complied by NASB and then shared with Raymond Central BOE and me.  It is our hope that this new process will provide me with constructive feedback relating to my goals and performance as I begin my tenure with the district.  Keeping the process open and transparent is important to me as well.  We will follow-up with the process again in the spring, hopefully noting growth in areas that need improvement.  Also look for posts on the RC website regarding the process.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at the superintendent’s office at 402-785-2615 or email Board President Dr. Harriet Gould, drhgould@gmail.com.

THANK YOU CERESCO AMERICAN LEGION . . . for coming on Veteran’s Day and presenting the colors. Thank you to all veterans and current service members, too!

DRESS AND PERSONAL APPEARANCE . . . Proper dress is basically a concern of the student and his/her parents, however, within a school setting certain guidelines must be established to insure a proper learning environment.  Students should not dress in a manner that is dangerous to the health and safety of anyone or interferes with the learning environment or teaching process in our school. Toward this goal, the following dress guidelines have been established. (Policy #5101)

  1. The health and safety of the individual will not be jeopardized in favor of personal preferences as to appearance and attire.
  2. Shoes and shirts are essential items of appropriate school dress.
  3. Hats are not to be worn in the school.
  4. Hair color is restricted to natural colors.

  6. School dress should reflect an attitude of respect and courtesy towards others.
  7. Clothing that shows an inappropriate amount of bare skin or underwear i.e. halter tops, midriffs, oversize tank tops with large arm holes, tank tops with straps less than 2 inch width, fishnet clothing, sagging pants, cut-off shirts and blouses, purchased jeans with intentional holes and fraying are not acceptable. Shorts/skirts of reasonable length may be worn. Generally shorts/skirts should be as long as the reach of the wearer’s fingertips. Biker shorts may be worn if another pair of shorts is worn over them. Chains or gang attire is unacceptable.
  8. Personal grooming and appearance that may not be conducive to the educational process of Raymond Central schools will not be allowed. Final decisions on appearance matters will be determined by the building administration.

WE ARE OFF TO A GREAT START! . . . Thank you for your cooperation as we learn procedures and routines for 2017-18.

FORMS . . . PLEASE COMPLETE THE FIRST DAY PACKET FORMS AND RETURN THEM ASAP!

SMILE . . . Elementary school pictures will be taken on Thursday, September 7 in both elementary schools. Lifetouch flyers with more information will be sent home with students.

BUS SAFETY . . . All students are subject to the following rules when riding on a Raymond Central School’s bus:

  1. When leaving the bus, students should cross the street from in front of the bus after carefully checking traffic.
  2. The bus driver is responsible for controlling the behavior on the bus, students must obey the drivers as they would a teacher or administrator.
  3. Students must always be seated and facing forward when the bus is moving.
  4. Students should not put arms, hands, etc. outside of windows. The aisle must be kept clear at all times.
  5. Students should assist in keeping the bus clean by using the trash receptacles available in each of the buses.
  6. Students should be courteous and use no profane language.
  7. The driver is authorized to assign seats.
  8. While waiting for the bus at a designated bus stop, all school rules and regulations will apply and appropriate behavior is expected.
  9. If your child is not riding the bus home as usual, written notes MUST be sent to the school regarding the change. Parents/guardians are asked to inform your bus driver(s) also. Riding a different bus is NOT an option. Also, students who are having one guest coming to their house or going to

another student’s house, must have two (2) notes, one from their parents and one from their guest’s parents. If more than one guest is coming to their house, parents need to provide transportation. They will not be allowed to ride without the notes. Last minute phone calls are also discouraged.

  1. Riding the bus is a privilege. The bus is an extension of the school day. All rules and regulations will apply. If students choose not to follow the rules, appropriate discipline will be administered. If a student violates a rule, the bus driver will file a Discipline Report. The first offense will be a warning. The second offense will be a 2-day bus suspension. The third offense will be a 5-day bus suspension. The fourth offense will be a 20-day bus suspension. The fifth offense will result in bus suspension for the remainder of the school year. If the offense is of a severe nature, bus privileges may be suspended immediately. If this occurs, parents will be contacted to arrange alternate transportation prior to the initiation of the suspension.

ASTHMA/ALLERGY/HEALTH PLANS . . . It is the responsibility of the parent to submit a medical statement each school year. An Emergency Care Plan, Asthma Action Plan, Allergy Action Plan or Diabetes Medical Management Plan must be completed and on file for students known to have one of the previously stated conditions. It is required that parents submit a medical statement each year. Parent’s notes or telephone calls are not adequate documentation. Only licensed health care providers may sign the medical statement forms (in most cases, a short note from a physician on a prescription pad does not contain the required information), and these must be kept on file for all students who require individualized medical treatment(s) or diet modifications. Please see your medical provider for the forms.

EARLY ARRIVALS . . . Students are not to be arriving before 8AM in Ceresco or Valparaiso, as supervision is not available before this time. Breakfast is served each day. Students eating breakfast should line up at the front door.

SOLAR ECLIPSE . . . We will be observing the Solar Eclipse on Monday, August 21. We will be providing approved safety glasses to all students who returned their permission form to observe the solar eclipse. We will have live streaming in the building if you would rather have your student do that – please send a note.

SAFETY DRILLS . . .  were practiced on Friday, August 18 by our students and staff. We try to stress with students that these are emergency procedures we hope we never have to use. As part of community to school partnering Officer Leedom, with the Ceresco Police Department, attended the drills.

CAFETERIA NEWS . . . Lunch prices for the 2017-2018 school year are $1.60 for breakfast and $2.60 for lunch. Extra milk is $.45 and is not covered under the Federal free and reduced lunch program since this is an option. It is important that students keep a positive balance in their lunch account. The Federal free and reduced lunch program provides an opportunity for families to apply for free/reduced meal rate. Please request an application from either elementary office. See the application for the income guidelines. We encourage all families who may be eligible to apply. In Ceresco, Monday’s lunch will be Turkey Sub, and Thursday’s lunch will be Crispito.

FOOD BANK BACKPACK PROGRAM . . . will be starting September 7. Any family whose student attends Raymond Central is eligible to apply. The application form is found on the back of this FYI. First priority will be given to student families who qualify for free/reduced lunch. Thank you to all the volunteers who pack the bags each week, and to all who donate to the fund each year. Mark your calendars now to participate in our fundraiser, The Hustle, on October 28.

SPIRIT SHIRT DAY . . . Most spirit shirt days will be the last Friday of each month. There are some exceptions with days that we have a party day or no school. Keep checking the FYI for the dates, but your student may wear their spirit shirt whenever they like. Thank you PTO for designing the shirt and making them available at a reasonable price. If you would still like to purchase one, please stop by either elementary office to pick up an order form.
