School District 101 completed its new two-story four-room building in the 1885-85 school year to ease a space problem that had forced the first four grades to be taught in a one room building while the upper grades were taught on the second floor of the R.K. Johnson building.  The district had been organized on February 2, 1878 by County Superintendent J.S. Smith from parts of districts 18, 81 (Oak Ridge) and 93 (Indian Camp).

The first twelfth grade class graduated in 1916.  Less than three years later, on January 28, 1919, a fire believed to have been started by the sparks from a railroad engine, destroyed the building.  The Methodist Episcopal Church, the Christian Church, a store building and a home were used as school houses until the older person portion of the building standing today was completed on March 21, 1921.

On June 24, 1963, a flash flood washed the building onto the road.   The road remained blocked for the summer as the flood also also took the bridge across Oak Creek.  Scrib's Movers from David City moved the school back on a new foundation closer to Oak Creek several weeks after the incident.  At the time, running water, bathrooms, and an entry room were added.  School began on schedule on August 26, 1963.
