| Introduction to Family & Consumer Science | |
| Description: This course develops a wider, more comprehensive view of family and consumer sciences. The following areas of family and consumer sciences will be studied: food, nutrition and food safety, houses and home environment, clothing and textiles, consumer education, and relationships. Units of study within each area of F&CS are spread over the course of the year and no unit is repeated within the school year. This is a good class to get ready for the semester specialty classes. | |

| Foods & Nutrition | |
| Description: If you like to cook or want to learn, this is the class for you! Soups, pasta, meat preparation, pastry and cakes are some of the labs. Units on the methods of food preparation, food safety and sanitation, understanding and using food pyramid, and setting a table are included. The etiquette unit meets the senior file requirement. | |

| Advanced Foods & Nutrition | |
| Description: Food science principles are studied and practiced in class as well as food safety and sanitation. Lab experiences are built on previous skills learned in beginning foods class. Microwave cooking and foreign foods are prepared. Students in the is class participate in a community service project and a "Bake-Off" contest. A dining experience is offered. | |

| Human Development | |
| Description: Infant Day, Toddler Daze, Preschool Week and Elementary School Experience are the special activities of this class. Prenatal development, birth methods, stages of development, birth defects, and parenting styles are studied. Learn about yourself by l earning by learning "stages" one goes through. | |

| Housing | |
| Description: Information about housing styles and housing alternatives during the life cycle will be covered in this class. Design labs offer the experience of designing interiors by using carpet samples, wall paper, paint, tech. A working knowledge of elements and principals of design are used. Tours are a part of this class. The unit on leases meets the senior file requirement. Learn about the "smart house", a house in your future. | |

| Clothing | |
| Description: In this course fashion history and cultures are examined. We will determine: the many meanings of clothing while discovering what has led to today's clothing trends, and why fabrics act/react like they do. Textile science labs will provide the opportunity to burn, dissolve and examine fabrics to better understand their properties. A variety of sewing skills will be developed. Students will select textiles or clothing projects to match their skill level. | |

| Consumer Education | |
| Description: This is a basic life skills class were students learn to budget money for food, small appliances, cars, insurance, and housing, develop meal planning and preparation skills, laundry skills and goal setting for life after high school are included. Job search skills and job performance skills are included in the class. | |

| Adult Living | |
| Description: This course is designed to assist students in dealing with decisions of adulthood. Topics will include relationships, parenting, family crisis, budgeting, conflict management, and etiquette. Consumer education is an integral part of the course. Students are actively involved in many learning activities. This class meets several senior file requirements. | |

| Family & Consumer Science 7 | |
| Description: A quarter class where the student learns about the meaning of family, family types and roles of family members. Families from other cultures are included. Cooperating with other in the kitchen is carried out though food labs. Students prepare foods while learning about the micro-wave, blenders, mixers and how to use the stove safely. The Food Pyramid and a study of nutrition is included. | |

Description: This quarter class explores three areas of Family and Consumer
Sciences: 1. being a wise consumer: influences on buying decisions, media messages, comparison shopping, consumer rights and responsibilities and money management. 2. housing and home environment: making the most of your home and designing your space. 3. clothing decisions: what makes a quality garment while developing skills in technical reading and garment construction, care and repair. |
