English 7 |
English 7 is a required course. Students engage in a comprehensive study of the parts of speech and their usage, and write for a variety of purposes including how to describe and how to inform. Thesis paragraph format it introduced and sample writing assessments are given in order to prepare the students for the actual assessments given in 8th grade. Students have required spelling and vocabulary words. |

English 8 is a required course for all 8th graders. Writing and literature are the main focus for this class. Students are introduced to many different types of literature and learn the elements of fiction and write a short story of their own. Two descriptive writing assessments and an informative research paper in conjunction with their Science Fair Project are required. Students also have required spelling and vocabulary. |

Journalism is a year long course. Students are responsible for putting together the school yearbook, as well as the monthly school newsletter. Students will be instructed and test on the details of making these publications, and will be expected to meet strict deadlines.
